Common Plumbing Problems

Plumbing issues can be quite costly unless you can fix common problems yourself.  Whether you are using a wrench, snake or other tools to assist with the situation and improve your amateur plumbing skills.  From the kitchen sink to the toilets to the pipes and everything in between to fix that dirty, you can handle it before you call a professional.

Clogged Drains or Toilets
When you notice water sitting in your sink, bathtub or toilet that won’t drain, you know you have an issue.  Try to determine first what caused the issue- was it a clump of hair, grease, or something worse?

When it comes to your toilet, the trusty plunger is your friend and can handle the job.  But if the problem still doesn’t get resolved with the plunger, it’s time to move to drain cleaner.

Burst Pipes
Burst pipes regardless of the reason can cost you thousands of dollars if it is not taken care of within an appropriate amount of time.  The best way you can fix a burst pipe is with a C clamp.  First turn off the water in your home.  Then, place a piece of rubber over the exposed area of the pip.  Secure the rubber by placing a piece of wood on top and then tighten down both pieces with a C clamp- make sure the clamp before you remove the wood and rubber.

Leaky Fixtures
A leaky faucet can not only be extremely annoying but it can also raise your water bill if it’s not fixed.  But lucky for you, you only need a few tools to complete the task.

First, remove the handle by removing the screw that attaches it to the faucet.  Try tightening the packing but which is located at the base of the system.  Finally, place the handle back onto the faucet and test to see if you’ve fixed the issue.

No Hot Water

Millions of people across the US suffer from a lack of hot water everyday.  If you have an electronic water heater, check to see if you’ve tripped the breaker, have a bad thermostat, or a faulty electric heating element.

How to Make Moving a Breeze

Moving to a new home can cause stress on you and your family from packing and unpacking your belongings, moving your furniture, leaving a home filled with memories, and moving into a home to make new memories.  But it’s time to take the stress and pain out of moving with these helpful tips.

  1. 1.     Start Early- As soon as you have made the decision to move, start going through all of your belongings.  Create separate piles and boxes- one for keep, one for donate, and one for toss.  Finally, box up the seasonal items you will not use until after you move.

  2. 2.     Create a System- Devise a system to help you keep track of your stuff and organize everything before packing it away.  Ensure that all of your items are in the correct boxes- color code your boxes by rooms, number each box, and write the destination of where your boxes are going.

  3. 3.     Pack a Suitcase- Pack items you will need to use the week of moving and the first week you are in your new home.  This way you can take time unpacking all of your belongings.

  4. 4.     Set Out Two Empty Boxes- Place items you want to toss or donate after you move.  Even if you have already sorted your boxes, you will still find items you will not need.

  5. 5.     Remember to Reward Yourself- Take a break from unpacking and enjoy a snack, drink, or even a massage.
